Paths through the essays

Guides

The essays each argue one idea, properly. The guides put the ideas in order: each one takes a single territory, lays out the map, and tells you where to start depending on where you are standing. The framework they all descend from is The Unforgiven Self. Each guide carries the heart of its territory on the page itself, what the thing is, how it forms, and what shifts it, so you can orient before you read a single essay. If you only have ten minutes, read the guide for the territory you are standing in. If something in it lands, the essays underneath go as deep as you want to go.
